Bucket Elevator Technology vs. OLDS ELEVATOR™ Technology
Bucket elevators are the most common method of mechanically elevating bulk granular materials at 90°. They are simply designed and occupy a minimal footprint. They operate by connecting buckets to a pair of chains or a belt that rides over a set of pulleys at the top and bottom of a vertical frame, much like an elongate ferris wheel. Buckets are filled from a chute that feeds material into the buckets near the bottom of the elevator as they move upward. Material that spills from the buckets collect in the boot of the elevator and may be collected in the buckets as they continuously pass through the boot. When the buckets reach the top of the frame and move over the top pulley the material in the buckets is flung outward toward a discharge chute.Checklist of OLDS ELEVATOR™ and Bucket Elevator Performance Features
Considerable air is moved within the housing of a bucket elevator. Dust, from material being elevated, can mix with this air to form explosive clouds needing only a spark to set of an explosion. Sparks can be produced if a bucket breaks off its chain and strikes the elevator frame or housing. Sparks are also produced when bearings overheat.OLDS ELEVATORS™ virtually eliminate the risk of dust explosions during the elevating process as there is insufficient air in the casing to support combustion even if a spark was present. |
